Dauphin Island is conveniently located along Alabama’s Gulf Coast, and driving distances vary depending on where you’re starting from:
-
Mobile, Alabama: Dauphin Island is about 38 miles southwest of Mobile. The drive usually takes 45 minutes to 1 hour, following AL-193 across the Dauphin Island Bridge.
-
Birmingham, Alabama: From Birmingham, the trip is roughly 280 miles and takes around 4.5 to 5 hours by car, mostly via I-65 South before connecting to AL-193.
-
New Orleans, Louisiana: Dauphin Island is about 150 miles east of New Orleans, and the drive typically takes 2.5 to 3 hours, following I-10 through Mississippi before turning south at Mobile.
Because Dauphin Island is a barrier island with just one road connection, all routes eventually funnel across the Gordon Persons Bridge. For details on the bridge’s length and history, check our full post: Dauphin Island Bridge: History.
